De geallieerden zijn aan wal gekomen
Het is 6 juni 1944 en het bericht vanuit
Normandië brengt ons in jubelende stemming
We zitten gezamenlijk om de radio heen
Om de geheime BBC-uitzending te horen
En wat een nieuws bracht hij ons, het is D-day vandaag
This news, so long awaited occupies my mind
From the turmoil inside, to the dreams that ignite
I praise the unknown soldiers who laid down their lives
Through their eyes I see Normandy arise
At break of day, white-crested ways carried the brave ashore
While cannons roared and strangers fought on this day, June sixth, forty-four
This day so bleak and barren written
By belief that I’ll soon feel the breeze
Walk the cities' streets
But hear me, within hope an enemy resides, on that feeds
And lays siege on a dream within my reach
A new dawn is near, shatter these chains
Begone dire warfare
Let me be embraced by a new world
In which I’m welcome and safe
When everything crumbled, let my words remain
This war, with sorrow laden has rooted viciously
Into my bone and marrow
The ardent life of me
And while its darkest tendrils smother me silently, I pray
Oh bravest soldiers, make haste the time is night
